UPF 50+ and the Lifespan of a Parasol
Understanding Durability, Care, and Maximizing Your Investment
Expected Lifespan
A well-cared-for Lily-Lark parasol, with maintenance and care, could last for years. This exceptional longevity is achieved through our commitment to handcrafted quality and premium materials sourced from Thailand, ensuring the highest quality production available anywhere.
As with any handcrafted item, defects will occasionally slip through our quality control team. Any item that arrives damaged or defective will be replaced immediately, as we are committed to providing products that meet our discriminating followers' standards.
UPF 50+ Certified Protection
Our fabric is manufactured with the addition of a UPF 50+ coating by our mill, and if well-cared for, should last for a number of years with normal wear and tear. UPF 50+ will block over 99% of the sun's UV rays and is the highest-rated protection available.
Quality UPF 50+ fabrics are designed to maintain their protective properties even after extended sun exposure, with some maintaining effectiveness for years when following the guidelines below.
Environmental Limitations
Wind Exposure: Exposure to high or even moderate wind for any period of time can, as with almost any umbrella, cause the parasol to break. DO NOT use these in windy climates.
Water Exposure: The parasols should be able to withstand a small amount of rain, but will not withstand a downpour. DO NOT use in a rainstorm. The fabric will stretch, and we will not be able to repair or replace it.
Proper Care and Maintenance
Daily Care
Parasols and hand fans can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Do not expose them to further moisture beyond light cleaning. For surface dirt, use a soft-bristle brush to prevent dirt from penetrating deep into the fabric fibers.
Cleaning Guidelines
As with any UPF 50+ fabric, repeated exposure to water or soap will eventually reduce its effectiveness. These parasols should not be placed in a washing machine or soaked in liquid for any length of time. They should be lightly brushed with a damp rag if anything soils them.
Storage Requirements
Store in a cool, dry environment. Proper storage during off-seasons is essential for longevity.
Maintaining UPF Protection
With proper care, the UPF coating on our products should maintain its ability to block UV rays for many years to come. However, certain factors can reduce its effectiveness over time:
- Avoid excessive washing: Repeated exposure to water and soap gradually reduces UPF effectiveness
- Gentle cleaning only: Use mild detergents and avoid harsh chemicals or bleach
- Air dry always: Never use machine dryers or high heat sources
- Store properly: UV protection lasts longer when fabric is stored away from direct sunlight when not in use
